I don't even know what to say! I'm missing my students.! It feels like we've been out of school for longer than a week!
First of all, I hope you are all staying healthy! If you have found your way here that means you received my email. (YAY) I am not usually very active on this site, but I will be checking it frequently and I will be checking my email frequently as well during this time. Please feel free to post a comment or email me privately with any questions - [email protected], and I will get back to you promptly.
I will be posting as many resources as I can here in case you need materials and ideas of things you can do at home with your child. Please know family time and self care is just as important (in my opinion) as skills practice so while I will be trying to post lots here for you to consider, I am not specifically assigning any work for students at this time. Please do what works best for your family.
Ok, let's get to some resources:
1. Check out the Nate Mack website:
https://sites.google.com/nv.ccsd.net/natemack
You will see a link underneath the Student Hub. This will take you to our school's suggested academic plan. I will also post the link here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PWWCq9KXurSTBL0FAOFkF7ZkF4RMCxBmlFeh7vsu0dc/edit
The resources for free online learning are really great. At the bottom of the plan you will see Grade Level Suggestions. If you click there, you will find some ideas and you will also find links to the CCSD Learning Extension Opportunities.
2. Also from the Nate Mack website:
Click on the Student Hub and you'll find lots of websites that your child can assess. MyOn is a great website to investigate if you haven't already. Your child can read books at their level online. There are thousands of books to choose from, and some of them even have AR tests that go with them. (More on AR in a minute.) We love using MyOn at our house. Also check out PebbleGo, Storyline Online, ABCya, etc. Check it all out!!
3. From the Nate Mack Student Hub, your child can also access their ScootPad account. It is very likely that your child's classroom teacher has loaded activities and assignments for them to choose from in their account. (*You should be hearing from your child's classroom teacher this week if you haven't already. They will likely provide more resources and let you know if they assigning any work during this time.)
4.. VOOKS!!! Parents can get a 30 day free membership right now. We have really enjoyed using this website at home and in the classroom this year. (Vooks = video books.) It's a lot of fun and a great way to keep reading while at home. https://watch.vooks.com/
5. Resources from Scholastic:
https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome.html
6. Finally, please know that your child can access their AR account and quiz from home during the school closure. In order to do so, you MUST follow the AR link from our school website OR from within the MyOn program after reading a book. You can test from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. including weekends. Parents, please be sure to have students test on their own, however if they need assistance reading the questions and answers, please read the quiz to them or read it together. If available, you can turn on text to speech with AR for some quizzes before testing. *My students know how to do this! I can't wait to see how many points everyone racks up. We had been working hard to meet our AR goals and personal goals the students had set for themselves this year. Don't give up! Keep reading and keep quizzing!
Please continue to check this site and your email. I will be checking in weekly via email and posting here as I find additional resources and anything else I think might be helpful. Also continue to check the Nate Mack website. You might see some fun new content pop up over there.
Wishing everyone health. Love, Mrs. Cowley
